2017 NOTICE TO TAXPAYERS

Relief for the Elderly or Disabled: If you are 65 years of age or older and/or permanently and totally disabled, your annual income is under $37,500.00, and your net worth, not including your home and one acre, does not exceed $100.000.00, you may qualify for a reduction on your primary dwelling. Also, if you have a VEHICLE WITH SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED EQUIPMENT for use by the handicapped, you may qualify for a lower tax rate.

KEY ELEMENTS OF THE PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX RELIEF ACT

The Personal Property Tax Relief Act of 1998 provides tax relief for passenger cars, motorcycles, and some pickup or panel trucks. To qualify, a vehicle must:

Be owned by an individual or leased by an individual under a contract requiring the individual to pay the property tax AND Be used less than 50% for business purposes.

Motor homes, trailers and farm use vehicles do no qualify for tax relief.

The tax on the first $20,000 of value of your qualifying personal car, motorcycle, and pickup or panel truck has been reduced by 46.5% this year. For qualifying vehicles valued at $1,000.00 or less, your obligation to pay the tax has been eliminated. These reductions are based on local tax rates in effect August 1, 2017.
