The Bedford County Board of Zoning Appeals (or BZA) is comprised of seven citizens appointed for the seven voting districts in the County. The composition of the Board of Zoning Appeals is established under, Section 15.2-2308 of the Code of Virginia. The powers and duties of the BZA are specifically assigned under Section 15.2-2309 of the Code of Virginia.
Each member is appointed by the Judge of the Circuit Court to serve a term of five years. The Board of Zoning Appeals may hear and decide appeals from any order, requirement, decision or determination made by any administrative officer in the administration or enforcement of the Zoning Ordinance.
The Building Inspection office is responsible for ensuring public health, safety & welfare associated with the design, construction & utilization of public and private buildings. County inspectors inspect all buildings under construction for compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code. Read More>>

Bedford The Bedford County 2030 Comprehensive Plan (“the Plan”) was adopted in June 2007 and amended in 2011, 2013 and 2015. The 2011 amendment incorporated the addition of Chapter 14 Urban Development Areas: this chapter was adopted for addition on June 13, 2011.
