The structure of Virginia's local government is unique in the Unites States. Only here are cities and counties entirely separate entities, independent of each other. Towns are part of the counties where they are located, and their residents pay county as well as town taxes for services.
The County Administrator leads the operations of the County government to meet the needs of the citizens of Bedford County. The Office advises members of the Board of Supervisors, recommends policies and sets priorities for the consideration by the Board of Supervisors concerning the provision of programs and serves that provide the highest quality of life to County citizens.
The County Administrator ensures compliance with federal, state and local laws and ordinances as well as maintaining open communication with various sectors of the community such as the legislative delegation, business community, area governments and County residents.
