Emergency Services

Bedford County's Emergency Services coordinates the overall county response to disasters. Emergency services encompasses law enforcement, fire and rescue and emergency dispatch. Emergency Services is also responsible for alerting and notifying appropriate agencies when disaster strikes; coordinating all agencies that respond; ensuring resources are available and mobilized in times of disaster; developing plans and procedures for response to and recovery from disasters; and developing and providing preparedness materials for the public.

    Dispatch

    Dispatch is the lifeblood between emergency situations, local law enforcement, the fire department, or emergency medical technicians. Dispatch, takes all applicable information, such as name of the caller, details of the situation, and an address to ensure all emergency situations are met with the critical care they need.

    Fire & Rescue

    Bedford County Department of Fire & Rescue is a combination department made up of primarily volunteers with supplemental career staffing to aid in meeting the public service obligations of the county citizens and visitors.  The department provides a wide-range of emergency services to the community.

    Sheriff Department

    Bedford County Sheriff’s Office became the 25th sheriff’s office and only the 51st law enforcement agency to meet or exceed a rigorous set of standards set forth by the Commonwealth of Virginia & earn accreditation from the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission, or VLEPSC.

    Location

    The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office moved into their new facility in 1998 which houses not only the command and control center for the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office but also the new state-of-the-art E-911 dispatch center for not only the Sheriff’s Office, but also county-wide fire and rescue, the Bedford Town Police Department and the Virginia Department of Game & Inland Fisheries.
