Bedford County's Department of Fire & Rescue is a combination department made up of primarily volunteers with supplemental career staffing to aid in meeting the public service obligations of the County citizens and visitors. Our mission is to protect the lives and property of the citizens and visitors of Bedford County while providing safe, timely, compassionate, effective and efficient services.
Chief Jack Jones, Jr is the Department lead, responsible for all facets of fire and emergency services operations within Bedford County.

Recruitment and retention is one of the biggest challenges facing Bedford County Department of Fire & Rescue (BCoFR) and emergency services nationwide today. Volunteers are important to the communities safety net and are always needed to respond to emergencies that may occur in the county and it is critical that we keep the volunteer fire and emergency service strong now and in the future. BCoFR continually strives to recruit more volunteers from within our community each and every day.
