Bedford County Parks & Senior Programs

The Bedford County Parks and Recreation Department (BCPRD) along with our local partners will be offering various recreational and life enhancing programs for Bedford County's over 50 years of age residents. A diverse selection of educational classes will be offered and are designed to improve the quality of life for county residents over 50 years of age. The BCPRD encourages all residents to review what opportunities are available. 

Fall 2017 Senior Newsletter

Senior Bingo

If you are 50 years or older and like to socialize and play Bingo, then this is the place for you. The Bedford County Parks and Recreation Department offers Bingo 3 times a month at 3 locations. Forest Recreation Center (2nd Tuesday), Smith Mountain Lake Moose Lodge (3rd Wednesday), and the Bedford Moose Lodge (4th Thursday). Lunch is served at all locations so come and bring your favorite dish to share.This program runs from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Cost is $1.00 per card with a limit of 4 cards per person. Silver Notes

Bedford County Parks and Recreation Department sponsors a Senior Choir group the “Silver Notes” If you are interested in joining the group please contact the Recreation Department at (540) 586-7682.

Line Dance Class

Bedford County Parks and Recreation line dance meets at the Recreation Office on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. If you are interested please call (540) 586-7682 for more information.

Oil Painting by the Bob Ross Method with Instructor Ed Gowen
Thursday, December 14

With the Bob Ross method of Oil Painting, you will complete each painting in just one class. Even people who have never painted before can do this although more experienced people will also enjoy the classes. Each painting is done on a 16x20 inch canvas (unless otherwise specified) using Bob Ross supplies. Students a roll of paper towels, all other supplies included. Fee: $75.00 per person. Wreath Making

Join instructor Linda Mann on Thursday, November 30th for a Christmas Wreath Making Class. Classes will be held at the Bedford County Parks and Recreation Office at 10:00 a.m. Fee is $6.00 per person and includes all supplies. You must pre register by calling 586-7682. 

Senior Exercise Class
Tuesday’s and Thursday’s 
Bedford Group Home Gym
2:00 p.m. Starting November 28th


Unique group exercise class that implements Strength, Flexibility and Balance. All levels welcome.
Instructed by Laura Guiliano- ACE Certified and Insured with 20 years experience in the field.
Come join us on Tuesday, Nov 28th at 2:00 p.m. Fee is $8.00 per class or $45.00 for six classes.

Senior Holiday Social

For Senior Adults 50+. Come for an afternoon of fun, fellowship, refreshments and music at the Bedford Moose Lodge. Program runs from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Price per person is $3.00. Please call (540) 586-7682 to pre register. 


Candy Bagging

Here’s your opportunity to get rid of all the left over Halloween candy.  Bring any candy you have or bring a bag of wrapped candy and join us as we make Christmas candy bags for area children.  Bags will be taken to the Bedford Christmas Station to be distributed during the Holiday Season.
