Bedford County Parks & Senior Programs

The Bedford County Parks and Recreation Department (BCPRD) along with our local partners will be offering various recreational and life enhancing programs for Bedford County's over 50 years of age residents. A diverse selection of educational classes will be offered and are designed to improve the quality of life for county residents over 50 years of age. The BCPRD encourages all residents to review what opportunities are available. 

Fall 2017 Senior Newsletter

Senior Bingo

If you are 50 years or older and like to socialize and play Bingo, then this is the place for you. The Bedford County Parks and Recreation Department offers Bingo 3 times a month at 3 locations. Forest Recreation Center (2nd Tuesday), Smith Mountain Lake Moose Lodge (3rd Wednesday), and the Bedford Moose Lodge (4th Thursday). Lunch is served at all locations so come and bring your favorite dish to share.This program runs from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Cost is $1.00 per card with a limit of 4 cards per person. Silver Notes

Bedford County Parks and Recreation Department sponsors a Senior Choir group the “Silver Notes” If you are interested in joining the group please contact the Recreation Department at (540) 586-7682.

Line Dance Class

Bedford County Parks and Recreation line dance meets at the Recreation Office on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. If you are interested please call (540) 586-7682 for more information.

Oil Painting by the Bob Ross Method with Instructor Ed Gowen
Thursday, February 15

Forest Recreation Center


With the Bob Ross method of Oil Painting, you will complete each painting in just one class. Even people who have never painted before can do this although more experienced people will also enjoy the classes. Each painting is done on a 16x20 inch canvas (unless otherwise specified) using Bob Ross supplies. Students a roll of paper towels, all other supplies included. Fee: $75.00 per person. Please call Stuart Saunders at (540) 586-7682 to register. All classes are held at the Forest Recreation Center.

Valentine Bird House


Join instructor Linda Mann on Monday, February 12 for a Valentine Bird House Craft Class. Classes will be held at the Bedford County Parks and Recreation Office at 10:00 a.m. Fee is $6.00 per person and includes all supplies. You must pre register by calling 586-7682. 

Elderfest
Thursday, May 3 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Friday, May 4 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.


Elderfest will be held on Thursday, May 3 from 6:00 p.m.—8:00 p.m. and Friday May 4 from 9:30 a.m.—1:00 p.m. The theme this year will be “The Kentucky Derby”. If you are interested in being a vendor please contact Parks and Recreation at 586-7682. Space is limited and will be first come first serve. Vendors are asked to participate on both days of the event. 

Elderfest is held each year in conjunction with Older Americans Month the first Thursday and Friday in May to celebrate the seniors of Bedford County. Vendors are on hand with valuable information and entertainment is offered both days. Dinner will be provided on Thursday and lunch tickets for Friday can be purchased in advance.
