Happy Tails Family Fun Day On Saturday May 17th @ Falling Creek Park in Bedford, Va., Bedford County Animal Shelter is hosting Happy Tails Family Fun Day from 10 am until 3 pm. Address is 1257 County Farm Rd. The entire family, including pets, will have a fun, informative day.

This day is dedicated to the companion animals of our region. Over a dozen area shelters and rescues will have pets available for adoption. Regional spay neuter clinics, veterinarians and Humane Societies will be attending to answer questions. Learn about low cost spay neuter for all pets. From 10 am until noon there will be a drive-thru, low cost Rabies Clinic. This is sponsored by the Lynchburg Humane Society and South Side Spay Neuter Clinic. The cost is $5.00 per pet. Several pet related vendors will be represented (grooming, pet food, obedience, etc). An agility course will be set up for your petís enjoyment. Live music will be provided by The Panini Brothers. Food will be available. The kids will enjoy the Falling Creek Park Playground, face painting, a bouncey house and contests. The park is pet friendly with a dog watering fountain and a couple poo stations. This regional pet adoption/ awareness event is being held to demonstrate the need for responsible pet ownership in our area.

Notice of Writ for Special Election in Town of Bedford On November 4, 2014 †A special election will be held on November 4, 2014, in the Town of Bedford to elect four members to Town Council for the unexpired portion of the term of each of the four present council members whose terms expire on December 31, 2016. Persons interested in becoming a candidate for this election may contact the Bedford County General Registrar or the Virginia State Board of Elections website at for information on becoming a candidate. The deadline for candidate filings is 5 p.m. on August 15, 2014.
