Public Notice: The Bedford County Board of Supervisors has relocated its work session, scheduled for April 22nd at 5:00 pm, to Liberty Middle School’s cafeteria/auditorium, 1237 Lacey Putney Way, Bedford.

As advertised, VDOT’s public hearing beginning at 6:00 pm, and the Board’s regular meeting beginning at 7:00 pm (which will include the public hearing on the tax rate), are scheduled for that same evening and will also be held at this location.

Varies from 5:30 am to 7:00 pm as assigned. Shifts will require every other weekend and some holidays.


Supportive work in which the employee assists in providing food and beverage preparation and service to the residents of the County’s nursing home. Uses safe and sanitary techniques while handling, serving, and storing food. Assembles food trays and serves residents. Maintains a sanitized kitchen. Cleans dining rooms and other areas. Work is performed under the direction of the Dietary Supervisor and / or Dietary Director.


Minimum Requirements Include:

  • Knowledge of kitchen, panty, and dish-room supplies, equipment, and cleaning practices.


  • Ability to communicate verbally and interact with co-workers, residents, and family members with courtesy and patience.


  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.


  • Medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.


  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp repetitively.


  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.


  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.


  • Visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, peripheral perception visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, operation of equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activates.



    Preferred Experience includes:

  •  Former experience in food service preferred.
