In Observance of Memorial Day, County Offices will be closed Monday, May 27, 2019


Public Notice: Please take notice that the Bedford County Board of Supervisors has scheduled a Work Session with VDOT on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 5:00 pm. This Work Session will be held in addition to the Regular Meeting already scheduled for that same evening at 7:00 pm.  Both the Work Session and the Regular Meeting will be held in the Boardroom of the Bedford County Administration Office located at 122 E. Main St., Bedford, VA. The purpose of the Work Session will be to discuss road priorities.

Also, a Regular Meeting has been scheduled on June 10, 2019 at 7:00 pm. The Regular Meeting will be held in addition to the Work Session already scheduled for that same evening at 5:00 pm. Both the Work Session and the Regular Meeting will be held in the Boardroom of the Bedford County Administration Office located at 122 E. Main St., Bedford, VA. The Regular Meeting was scheduled primarily to adopt the FY2019-20 budget; however, other items will likely be added to the Regular Meeting’s agenda as needed.

IMPORTANT UPCOMING ELECTION INFORMATION: All Bedford County Voting precincts will have a Republican Primary to select a candidate for Sheriff. Voting precincts in the 23rd House District will also select a candidate for the House of Delegates.

If you are not already registered to vote, Virginians must apply to register to vote (or update their registration name and current address) NO LATER THAN MAY 20, 2019.

For the convenience of registered voters who need to vote by absentee ballot, your Voter Registration Office will be open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on June 8, 2019, in addition to normal business hours. Requests for Absentee Ballots by mail may be made no later than 5:00 pm on June 4, 2019.

If you are currently registered to vote, you do not need to re-register unless you have made a change to your address or name in which case you need to notify the Registrar in writing. You may also update your voter registration information on-line at the Department of Elections website at www.elections.virginia.gov.

Description

Dispatches law enforcement, emergency services and public works equipment and personnel in response to both emergency and nonemergency situations and disseminates information to the general public and emergency services. This position must maintain confidentially. Exceptional customer service skills must be exercised to assist a wide range of people. This position must maintain confidentially. This work is fast-paced and diverse.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements Include:

  • Must possess a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license, proof of insurance required to drive on County business, and acceptable driving record

     

  • Must acquire a valid VA Dept of Criminal Justice Services Telecommunicator certificate with 12 months of employment as required by DCJS, as well as completion of the DCJS on-the-job training certificate

     

  • Must acquire APCO Basic Telecommunicator Course, APCO EMD course, CPR and APCO Fire Communications course within 6 months of employment.

     

  • Must acquire a VCIN level A operators certificate within 6 months of employment, as required by the Virginia Department of State Police VCIN operating manual

     

  • Must successfully complete IS100, IS200, and IS700 National Management NIMS training with 6 months of employment

     

  • Ability to speak clearly; ability to hear/understand all audio communications systems within the confines of the communications center

     

  • Capable of accurately viewing a computer screen from a seated position as not to interfere with performing other essential duties

     

  • Skill in typing accurately on a standard keyboard at a rate of not less than 30 wpm

     

  • Ability to perform assigned duties on a daily basis with no deviation under extended high levels of stress

Preferred Experience includes:

  • Associates degree a plus.
