Performs responsible professional work in providing nursing care to the elderly and medically ill at the Bedford County Nursing Home; completes related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Nursing. Supervision is exercised subordinate nonprofessional and professional personnel. This position may serve as a nurse in charge of a shift.


Minimum Requirements Include:

  • .Must possess a current active license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Knowledge of the principles, standards, practices and techniques of professional nursing
  • Knowledge of reconciling narcotics and other medications
  • Knowledge of documentation of pertinent medical information
  • Knowledge of assessment and notification of the physician, Director of Nurses, and families of change of condition.
  • Heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects


    Preferred Experience includes:

  • Long term care experience
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of residents, families and staff
  • Proficient in RN skills
