Public Notice: Please take notice that the Chairman has called for a special meeting of the Broadband Authority for Tuesday, January 22. 2019 at 5:00 p.m. in the large conference room, 2nd floor County Admin Building.  The purpose of the meeting is to hold a closed session with representatives of Blue Ridge Towers regarding the negotiation of the contract for the County’s Broadband Initiative.

Description

This position acts as a representative of the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office by performing law enforcement services in Bedford County Public Schools. Candidate shall develop programs and relationships that encourages a safe learning environment for students, faculty and staff; teaches appropriate classes within the school system and community; performs school safety surveys; conducts criminal investigations; coordinates Crime Prevention programs within the school system, and conducts other law enforcement related presentations to community groups. Candidate will attend Business and Neighborhood Watch meetings; and may supplement DARE/GREAT Education instructors as required.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements Include:

  • Must hold current and valid Virginia DCJS Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer
  • Knowledge of the practices and methods of police operations and administration
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to work with the general public in a courteous manner
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to research and prepare reports and presentations to community groups
  • Ability to successfully complete mandated G.R.E.A.T Instructor Training
  • Skilled in the use of firearms and police vehicles
  • Must possess a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to maintain compliance with minimum standards for police officers issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia

     

    Preferred Experience includes:

  • Current certification as a School Resource Officer
