Tri-County Lakes Administrative Commission (TLAC) - Smith Mountain Lake Summer Vessel Pump Out Program

Hours will include weekends, holidays, and overtime to meet the needs of the department.


The Tri-County Lakes Administrative Commission partners with the Virginia Department of Health and the Smith Mountain Lake Association to operate a Vessel Pump Out Program on Smith Mountain Lake during the summer boating season.


Position provides leadership and supervision for summer vessel pump out and education program. The candidate will monitor pump out procedures as performed; prepare reports including information pertaining to each vessel serviced by the program. The candidate shall report to the department head. Work is performed under general supervision. Regular supervision may be exercised over subordinate personnel.


Minimum Requirements Include:

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
  • The candidate must possess a valid Commonwealth of VA Driver's License, proof of insurance and acceptable driving record.
  • The candidate must have passed, or be willing to take and pass the Virginia Boating Safety Education course.
  • Thorough knowledge of safe boating practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Smith Mountain Lake and the locations of marinas.
  • Must be highly organized with the ability to keep records.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend County, State, and Federal policies and procedures.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, marina owners, and the general public.
  • Must work cooperatively in a diverse team and/or independently.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions and is subject to outside environmental conditions.

Preferred Experience includes:

  • Demonstrated stable work history
