Public Notice: Please take notice that the Bedford County Board of Supervisors has scheduled a Work Session with VDOT on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 5:00 pm. This Work Session will be held in addition to the Regular Meeting already scheduled for that same evening at 7:00 pm.  Both the Work Session and the Regular Meeting will be held in the Boardroom of the Bedford County Administration Office located at 122 E. Main St., Bedford, VA. The purpose of the Work Session will be to discuss road priorities.

Also, a Regular Meeting has been scheduled on June 10, 2019 at 7:00 pm. The Regular Meeting will be held in addition to the Work Session already scheduled for that same evening at 5:00 pm. Both the Work Session and the Regular Meeting will be held in the Boardroom of the Bedford County Administration Office located at 122 E. Main St., Bedford, VA. The Regular Meeting was scheduled primarily to adopt the FY2019-20 budget; however, other items will likely be added to the Regular Meeting’s agenda as needed.

IMPORTANT UPCOMING ELECTION INFORMATION: All Bedford County Voting precincts will have a Republican Primary to select a candidate for Sheriff. Voting precincts in the 23rd House District will also select a candidate for the House of Delegates.

If you are not already registered to vote, Virginians must apply to register to vote (or update their registration name and current address) NO LATER THAN MAY 20, 2019.

For the convenience of registered voters who need to vote by absentee ballot, your Voter Registration Office will be open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on June 8, 2019, in addition to normal business hours. Requests for Absentee Ballots by mail may be made no later than 5:00 pm on June 4, 2019.

If you are currently registered to vote, you do not need to re-register unless you have made a change to your address or name in which case you need to notify the Registrar in writing. You may also update your voter registration information on-line at the Department of Elections website at

Landfill Hours - Monday – Saturday, 7:30am-4pm – Must be available within these hours.


Operates heavy equipment, maintains grounds, collects litter, sorting recyclable materials, operates baling equipment, manages tire / electronics recycling, and manages household hazardous waste. Serves as an equipment operator, and a backup scale house attendant. This position works mostly at the Waste Management facility. Requires the employee to work outside in all weather conditions and includes working during snow removal activities. Facility personnel work a rotating schedule that includes holidays and weekends. This is a physically demanding job. Requires daily contact with the public.


Minimum Requirements Include:

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school
  • Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly
  • General knowledge of heavy equipment, safe operating practices and occupational hazards
  • Introductory computer knowledge
  • Ability to read, write, and understand and specific oral instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public
  • Ability to work in extreme environmental conditions
  • Must possess a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license with acceptable driving record
  • Completion of a physical examination indicating acceptable health to perform the essential duties of position
  • Class I Operator’s license, or ability to obtain within two (2) years of accepting position.


    Preferred Experience includes:

  • General knowledge of solid waste disposal regulations or knowledge in a related field
