County Administration – Information Technology

Responsible for technology and telecommunications infrastructure, technology services, and applications which support the County. Establishes long-term strategic direction for technology and applications supporting governmental functions. Monitors and adapts to align with IT needs / requirements of departments. Manages the design and implementation of strategic initiatives. 

Designs, implements and manages technology and applications to support County functions. Establishes processes / procedures representing industry best practices in an information technology environment. Ensures departmental staff follows established processes and procedures on a daily basis. Has project management responsibility for all projects involving the design, implementation, and management of technology supporting County departments. 

Overall responsibility for the County’s information security. Establishes security plans / policies / procedures to protect the information and technology assets of the County. Responsible for ongoing monitoring to ensure the County maintains a solid security posture. Work is performed under the general supervision of the County Administrator with latitude for

independent judgment and action, both unilaterally and as authorized by the County Administrator.


Minimum Requirements Include:

  • Bachelor’s degree with major in computer science or related field
  • Experience working in multiple roles including network engineering / support, systems / server engineering / administration, and application integration
  • Ability to lead technical personnel in a medium size environment
  • Valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license, proof of insurance and acceptable driving record.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of design, implementation, and operation of telecommunications networks and related technology infrastructure. Thorough understanding of local area networks, wide area networks, and wireless technology utilized within each of these environments.
  • Thorough knowledge of contemporary server operating system platforms including design, implementation, and

    management of these platforms. Working knowledge of contemporary server and storage hardware platforms. Strong working knowledge of desktop, tablet, and mobile operating systems and related hardware.

  • Good working knowledge of contemporary technology best practices in areas such as cloud computing, server and desktop virtualization, software as a service (SaaS), infrastructure as a service (IaaS), and other related technologies. Experience leveraging and establishing an appropriate balance of cloud-based and on premise solutions to maximize availability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
