Public Notice: Please take notice that the Bedford County Board of Supervisors has scheduled a Work Session with VDOT on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 5:00 pm. This Work Session will be held in addition to the Regular Meeting already scheduled for that same evening at 7:00 pm.  Both the Work Session and the Regular Meeting will be held in the Boardroom of the Bedford County Administration Office located at 122 E. Main St., Bedford, VA. The purpose of the Work Session will be to discuss road priorities.

Also, a Regular Meeting has been scheduled on June 10, 2019 at 7:00 pm. The Regular Meeting will be held in addition to the Work Session already scheduled for that same evening at 5:00 pm. Both the Work Session and the Regular Meeting will be held in the Boardroom of the Bedford County Administration Office located at 122 E. Main St., Bedford, VA. The Regular Meeting was scheduled primarily to adopt the FY2019-20 budget; however, other items will likely be added to the Regular Meeting’s agenda as needed.

IMPORTANT UPCOMING ELECTION INFORMATION: All Bedford County Voting precincts will have a Republican Primary to select a candidate for Sheriff. Voting precincts in the 23rd House District will also select a candidate for the House of Delegates.

If you are not already registered to vote, Virginians must apply to register to vote (or update their registration name and current address) NO LATER THAN MAY 20, 2019.

For the convenience of registered voters who need to vote by absentee ballot, your Voter Registration Office will be open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on June 8, 2019, in addition to normal business hours. Requests for Absentee Ballots by mail may be made no later than 5:00 pm on June 4, 2019.

If you are currently registered to vote, you do not need to re-register unless you have made a change to your address or name in which case you need to notify the Registrar in writing. You may also update your voter registration information on-line at the Department of Elections website at

Applications are being accepted for multiple positions of Assistant Commonwealth‘s Attorney. Positions will start no later than July 1, 2019.

Both experienced prosecutors and entry-level applicants will be considered.

Shall be responsible for performing difficult professional work as prosecutor for the county, town and the state. Typical duties include serving as a prosecutor; preparing cases for prosecution; trying cases in General District, Juvenile and Domestic Relation, and Circuit Courts. Work is performed under general supervision.


Minimum Requirements Include:

  • Must possess degree from an accredited law school
  • Must have considerable demonstrated experience as a practicing attorney.
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of modern principles and practices of law, state laws and court decisions applicable to criminal prosecution.
  • Must be eligible to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Must possess any other qualifications as prescribed by state statute.
  • Must possess a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license, proof of insurance required to drive on county business, and acceptable driving record.
  • Subject to a complete criminal history background search and drug screening with acceptable results.

Preferred Experience includes:

  • Prior experience with cases involving crimes against children, or other special victims, preferred.
