Public Works - Housekeeping


122 East Main Street, Bedford


3:00 pm – 11:00 pm – hours may vary depending on business needs


Responsible for cleaning and maintaining County buildings, facilities, and grounds. Typical tasks include: sweeping / mopping / vacuuming floors; removing trash and recyclables; operating cleaning equipment to include vacuums and buffers; cleaning windows, walls, restrooms; and setting up meeting rooms.


Minimum Requirements Include:

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment
  • Must possess a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license, proof of insurance required to drive on county business, and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to understand oral and written directions
  • Ability to read and write
  • Physical ability to perform manual work and lift 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly.
  • Ability to move objects; climb, stoop, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, and grasp
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.


    Preferred Experience includes:

  • Previous custodial experience
