The Bedford County Board of Supervisors has a continued commitment to bring broadband internet to all areas of Bedford County. There are numerous broadband projects and expansions underway right now.
In 2022, Bedford County entered into contracts with ZiTel, Shentel, and RiverStreet Networks. These projects were made possible with grants from the Department of Housing and Community Development's Virginia Telecommunication Initiative (VATI). In March 2023, Bedford County executed a contract with Verizon to extend broadband fiber to unserved addresses in the Wheats Valley and Big Island areas remaining from a 2019 VATI broadband project.
