On Jan. 27, 2025, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution to advertise for bids for the expansion of the Bedford County Animal Shelter. Those bids are due by Feb. 21, 2025. The goal is to begin construction by spring.
The expansion will be approximately 3,000 square feet and include 40 additional dog kennels, a spay and neuter clinic, and an expanded welcome center.
Earlier this year in our Bedford County Community Connection quarterly newsletter, we shared information about the current overcrowding at the shelter and the special donation fund established for this expansion. Read more here.
There are three ways to donate:
- Mail a check to the Treasurer’s Office: 122 East Main St. Bedford, VA 24523. Include Bedford County Animal Shelter in the check’s memo.
- Bring check or cash to the Treasurer’s Office in person.
- Bring a check or cash to the Animal Shelter: 1307 Falling Creek Rd. Bedford. If you have questions or would like to coordinate the receival of a check/donation, contact DW Lawhorne at dlawhorne@bedfordcountyva.gov.
All donations are tax deductible, and staff are also making plans to recognize donors in the new shelter’s welcome area.
