Bedford County Nursing Home has been awarded first place in the Special Events category of the 2025 D.A. “Woody” Brown Community Involvement Awards, presented by the Virginia Health Care Association–Virginia Center for Assisted Living (VHCA-VCAL).
For more than 30 years, VHCA-VCAL has recognized exceptional activity programs that engage, educate, and enrich the lives of residents while strengthening connections with the broader community. The Special Event award honors a one-time event held between May 2024 and May 2025, evaluated on its creativity, inclusivity, and impact.
This year, Bedford County Nursing Home stood out with its 2024 Olympic Week, which was inspired by the spirit of the Summer Olympics. The week kicked off with a torch-passing ceremony in the courtyard and featured a variety of adapted competitions such as basketball, javelin throw, and mini golf, ensuring residents of all abilities could take part.
Award recipients will be celebrated at the 2025 VHCA-VCAL Awards Banquet on September 17 in Roanoke.
