Here are your top announcements from Bedford County, VA government for December 2025:
The Treasurer and Commissioner of Revenue are offering extended office hours ahead of the upcoming tax payment deadline.
Personal property taxes and the second installment of real estate taxes are due on or before Friday, Dec. 5, 2025. Their offices will stay open until 7 p.m. Dec. 1-5, 2025.
Residents are encouraged to utilize the new online payment portal for taxes. Bank transfer (ACH) is free; there is a flat $7 fee for credit card payments.

Bedford County government offices will be closed for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
CHRISTMAS: Government offices and the Bedford Area Welcome Center will be closing at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2025, and will remain closed Dec. 25-26, 2025. The Waste Management Facility and gated waste convenience centers will be closed on Dec. 25 only.
NEW YEAR’S: Government offices will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, for New Year’s Day. The Waste Management Facility, gated waste convenience centers, and Bedford Area Welcome Center will also be closed.
The Festival of Trees is on display through Jan. 4, 2026, at the Bedford Area Welcome Center.
This is the 17th year of the holiday event that’s organized by Destination Bedford, Bedford County’s Tourism department.
There are 40 trees on display this year. Each tree is decorated by a community organization or business. Vote for your favorites for $1/vote. Proceeds are donated to a nonprofit of choice for the respective tree.
The Bedford Area Welcome Center (816 Burks Hill Road, Bedford) is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily (except Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day) and has extended hours until 8 p.m. Dec. 5-7, 2025, and Dec. 12-14, 2025.

New applications are currently being accepted for Bedford County's Land Use Assessment program.
An application will be required to enter a parcel into the program for the first time or if a change has been made during 2025 to a parcel that is currently participating in the program.
New Land Use Assessment applications must be filed by December 31, 2025, with a late fee. The total fee will be $65.
All participants were required to renew during 2024 for the 2025-2026 tax years. A renewal is not required at this time.

Join Bedford County Parks & Recreation for a big screen holiday movie later this month.
They will be showing “The Santa Clause” at the Bedford County Gym (1059 Turning Point Rd., Bedford) on Saturday, Dec. 20, at 6 p.m. There will be hot chocolate, cookies, and popcorn for attendees.
This event is free to the public.
If you are looking for ways to give back this holiday season, there are several simple ways you can make an impact.
- The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office is accepting new, unwrapped toys for children in need in Bedford County Public Schools. There is a large donation box in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office (1345 Falling Creek Rd., Bedford) and at the Bedford Wal-Mart.
- Donate to the "Shop with a Cop" fundraiser through Bedford County Social Services. Make a donation by calling 540-586-7750 ext. 2266 or send a check to Bedford County DSS; memo, “Shop with a Cop.” Mail to Bedford DSS, Attn. D. Kennedy, PO Box 1187, Bedford, VA 24523.
- Bedford County Social Services operates a food pantry year-round that is 100% supported by community donations. You can bring non-perishable food items to their offices located at 119 E. Main Street, Bedford, anytime during normal business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm).
