Beginning in 2026, the Bedford County Treasurer’s Office will offer taxpayers a new option to make advance payments toward their real estate and/or personal property tax bills.
Prepayments may be made for up to 80% of the prior year’s tax bill. For example, if your 2025 personal property tax bill was $500, you may prepay up to $400 toward your 2026 bill. When tax bills are mailed in September, you will be responsible only for the remaining balance.
Prepayments must be made in person at the Treasurer’s Office, located at 122 East Main Street in Bedford. The office accepts cash, check, or bank draft.
To make prepayments by automated bank draft, taxpayers must complete a bank draft agreement (obtain in person or on our Pay Taxes webpage) and provide a voided check. Both the signed agreement and voided check must be submitted in person at the Treasurer’s Office.
For more information about account prepayments, please email the Treasurer's Office or call the office at 540-586-7670.
