Bedford County residents may occasionally notice Sheriff’s deputies at local waste convenience centers. These deputies will be conducting brief, periodic address verifications to ensure that only Bedford County residents are using the facilities.

If a deputy determines that an individual is not a resident of Bedford County and has disposed of waste at a center, the individual may receive a citation for illegal dumping, a misdemeanor offense with a $250 fine for the first violation.

Additionally, Bedford County Waste Management is rolling out new signage at several of the busiest centers, including Forest, Boonsboro, Montvale, and Stewartsville. These signs will remind visitors that the centers are for “Bedford County Residents Only: Violators May Be Fined.”
