Here's what's happening in Bedford County this month: 

The first installment of 2026 Bedford County real estate taxes is due by Friday, June 5, 2026.

Bedford County residents have the option to pay their real estate taxes in two installments, with the second payment due on December 5, 2026.

A new billing process takes effect this year. Residents who choose the installment option will receive a second tax bill by mail this fall. Those who pay their full tax balance by June 5 will not receive an additional bill.

Bedford County government offices will be closed on Friday, June 19, 2026, in observance of the Juneteenth holiday. The Bedford County Animal Shelter will also be closed.

Several county facilities will remain open during normal business hours, including:

• Waste Management Facility
• Gated waste collection centers
• Bedford Area Welcome Center

Voters can participate in the upcoming primary election beginning June 18, 2026.

Early in-person absentee voting for the August 4, 2026, Primary Election will take place from June 18 through August 1 at the new Bedford County Vote Center, located at 1251 Turning Point Road in Bedford.

Voting hours are:

• Monday through Friday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Saturday, July 25: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Saturday, August 1: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Sunday, July 19: 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
• Sunday, July 26: 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Families can now register children for Bedford County Parks & Recreation fall sports. Registration is open from June 1 through July 3, 2026.

Available programs include:

• Tackle Football
• Cheer
• Soccer
• Baseball
• Tee Ball
• Softball
