Public NoticeThe Joint CIP Worksession scheduled for November 14, 2019 at 5:00 pm between the Board of Supervisors and the School Board has been cancelled.


The entire list of Board meetings for the remainder of the year is as follows:

  • November        25th       Regular Meeting
  • December        9th         Regular Meeting (Work Session 5:00 to 6:30 pm)

Public Notice: The Department of Community Development will be closed on Monday, November 18th as the Department transitions to new permitting software.  As a result, no inspections will be conducted nor permits will be issued.  Thank you for understanding as we go through this transition.

Welcome to the Animal Shelter

The Bedford County Animal Shelter provides boarding options to abandoned and stray animals. Our adoptable animals including dogs and puppies, cats and kittens, bunnies, guinea pigs, reptiles and more are available with updated shots and neutering. Feel free to take a tour of the Shelter, talk with staff and ask about Shelter programs.  

LOCATION 

Stray animals picked up by the Animal Control Officers are taken to the Bedford County Animal Shelter located on Falling Creek Road. In case of an Emergency call 911.  To report a stray animal or other animal control problem call 540-586-7827.The wardens provide services from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

    Animal Control Officers enforce state & county ordinances regarding domestic animals.

    The wardens provide services from 8:00AM-5:00PM Monday- Friday.

    Licenses

    All dogs and cats must be vaccinated against rabies. Dogs who are four months old by Jan. 31 of each year must be licensed.

    License fee (Lifetime)the new dog license application goes into effect Nov. 1, 2019.

    Kennels must also be licensed. Yearly fees are $35 for up to 10 dogs, $70 for up to 20 dogs, $105 for up to 30 dogs and $140 for up to 40 dogs.

    Licenses MUST be purchased or the downloaded form brought in to the County Treasurer’s office on the main floor of the County Administration Building, 122 East Main Street, Bedford.
