We have had such an overwhelming response to some of our camps that we have added two additional weeks. Magic Fairy camp(held at the Bedford Rec Office) for ages 4+ will be July 16 - July 20 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and $75.00 per participant. Art Camp (held at the Forest Rec Center) for ages 5-9 will be July 23 - July 27 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and $65.00 per participant. The Bedford County Parks and Recreation Department (BCPRD) along with our local partners will be offering various recreational and life enhancing programs for Bedford County's over 50 years of age residents. A diverse selection of educational classes will be offered and are designed to improve the quality of life for county residents over 50 years of age. The BCPRD encourages all residents to review what opportunities are available.
If you are 50 years or older and like to socialize and play Bingo, then this is the place for you. The Bedford County Parks and Recreation Department offers Bingo 3 times a month at 3 locations. Forest Recreation Center (2nd Tuesday), Smith Mountain Lake Moose Lodge (3rd Wednesday), and the Bedford Moose Lodge (4th Thursday). Lunch is served at all locations so come and bring your favorite dish to share.This program runs from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Cost is $1.00 per card with a limit of 4 cards per person. Friday, May 4 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Elderfest will be held on Thursday, May 3 from 6:00 p.m.—8:00 p.m. and Friday May 4 from 9:30 a.m.—1:00 p.m. The theme this year will be “The Kentucky Derby”. If you are interested in being a vendor please contact Parks and Recreation at 586-7682. Space is limited and will be first come first serve. Vendors are asked to participate on both days of the event.
Elderfest is held each year in conjunction with Older Americans Month the first Thursday and Friday in May to celebrate the seniors of Bedford County. Vendors are on hand with valuable information and entertainment is offered both days. Dinner will be provided on Thursday and lunch tickets for Friday can be purchased in advance.
