The Bedford County Information Technology Department is focused on aligning technology initiatives with organizational goals for the benefit of the citizens of Bedford County.
IT Vision
To contribute to the fulfilment of the Bedford County strategic plan, the IT Department is committed to empowering department, constitutional officer, Bedford County Schools, and Bedford County Public Library System stakeholders with technology and services that facilitate effective processes, collaboration, and communication for the benefit of the citizens of the County.
Department Overview
The primary functions of the Bedford County Information Technology Department are to manage and oversee all aspects of the county’s technology infrastructure, telecommunications, technology services, and applications to support government operations.
The core objectives of the Information Technology Department are:
- Strategic Technology Direction: Define and deliver strategic IT capabilities, ensuring all county departments are aligned with long-term technology goals and best practices.
- Application & Infrastructure Management: Promote standards for infrastructure and applications, oversee both capital and operating IT budgets, and prioritize projects that meet business needs.
- Collaboration & Partnership: Foster a collaborative environment with partners and agencies to drive strategic technology initiatives across the county.
- Continuous Improvement & Adaptation: Monitor industry trends, adapt to technological changes, and reprioritize initiatives to meet evolving needs and challenges.
- Information Security: Establish, monitor, and enforce security protocols to protect county information and assets.
These functions and objectives ensure the department supports the county’s governmental mission efficiently and securely, while strategically planning for future advancements.
Digital Counties Survey Award Winner
The Center for Digital Government's Digital Counties Survey recognizes counties for their strategic and effective use of information technologies to serve their citizens and perform local government operations. Bedford County has been recognized as a Digital Counties Survey Award Winner for five years in a row, including in 2025.
