The Adult Services Division’s programs provide a variety of services and interventions in the community.
Adult Protective Services
Adult Protective Services (APS) works to prevent and protect adults from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
- To make an APS complaint during normal business hours, call 540-586-7750 ext. 2276.
- To make an APS complaint after business hours or on holidays, call the state hotline number at 1-888-83ADULT or make a report on the new Online APS Report Portal. (Please note: This portal is only for a report of suspected adult abuse, neglect, or exploitation that is NOT an emergency. To report an emergency, call 911.)
Adult Services
The Adult Services program focuses on enhancing the independence of older adults and individuals with disabilities and providing financial assistance to low-income adults who meet criteria.
Adult Services also oversees all adult guardianship reports (4-month initial report and annual reports) and can provide information on dates for these reports. Your point of contact for guardianships for Bedford County is Dawn Weeks at 540-586-7750 x2260.
Adult Services is now running two innovative programs as well:
- High Frequency 911 is a partnership with Fire & Rescue to work with individuals who have a high rate of calls to 911 for non-emergency needs to increase support and decrease misuse of 911.
- Prisoner Re-entry is a partnership with Probation and Parole in which an Adult Service worker is available at Probation and Parole one day per week to help with services, referrals and opening Adult Services cases as needed.
