All motor vehicles (including cars, trucks, trailers, motorhomes, motorcycles), boats, airplanes, and mobile homes normally garaged, parked, or docked in Bedford County are subject to tangible personal property taxation.
The personal property rate in Bedford County is $2.35 per $100 of assessed value.
Bills are typically mailed in October and are due by December 5.
Within 10 days of purchasing a motor vehicle or moving into Bedford County, all residents are required to register with the Commissioner of Revenue's office. DMV registrations are essential and notification must also be given when a vehicle is sold or moved from Bedford County. (Please note: Proration is determined by these dates. Updating Your Personal Property Tax Information
To update your personal property tax information after selling a vehicle and purchasing a new one, please follow these steps:
New Vehicle Purchases: When you register your new vehicle, the DMV will electronically provide the vehicle information to the Commissioner of Revenue. Please verify that the correct locality is listed on your registration.
Sold or Traded Vehicles: If you sell or trade your vehicle, you must notify the DMV of the sale or trade date. The DMV will then update its records and provide that information to the Commissioner of Revenue office.
